Gault&Millau's review 2025

Hidden in the Amalienpassage, the "Tschecherl" is a little piece of Austria in the middle of Munich. Jürgen Wolfsgruber, known from the Sparkling Bistro, brings down-to-earth cuisine at a high level into a purist ambience here - just like in a real "Tschecherl", a simple Viennese pub. But the fact that it is located in Hans Haas' former cooking school can be expected to be something special here. It does indeed. And so the old master looks from the wall with a gracious smile at the open kitchen, from which Austrian classics such as Grammelknödel on Szeged cabbage and veal feather braised in Zweigelt find their way to a young audience - dishes that make Wolfsgruber's attachment to his homeland palpable. Of course, the legendary apricot pancakes are not to be missed. All this in impeccable product quality (the trout does not come from the miller's wife, but from Birnbaum) and with the sovereignty of light and loosely served top cuisine, which is presented here in such a casual form that we do not worry about the future of upscale hospitality.
