Gault&Millau's review 2025

Please ring the bell: In Yvonne Specht's stylishly noble living room with its finely set tables, you can't just pass by. Since mid-2023, Dirk Brendel (previously ten years at "Einfach Brendel" in Duisburg's water district) has been cooking in the open kitchen for four tables and two seats at the counter. What is available is up to him, because there is no menu. But there are culinary-creative standards and an excellently stocked wine list. Seven courses plus various intermezzos, all fresh every day and constantly changing depending on the season and market situation, often with Mediterranean influence, but grounded in the region. The wafer-thin Serrano ham at the start hangs on a wooden rack, accompanied by bread from baker Gaues and whipped butter with daisies. Topinky (toasted bread) is added to the foie gras instead of brioche and there is no pinkel with kale, but porcini mushroom variations. On top of that an Underberg – and that as a sorbet. In short: cuisine that is fun and invites you to come back.
