Gault&Millau's review 2025

At the gates of Freiburg, just behind Kirchzarten, it goes up into the Black Forest and to a country inn as you could only wish for: The parlour is 150 years old, the regular audience (including the former editor-in-chief of this guide, and not without reason) populates the white-covered tables, and the hiking trails start right outside the door. However, you should use them before rather than after the menu, because Bernd Lutz's Baden-French cuisine has it all, and once you have found a place here (reservation is strongly recommended), you will be happy to stay seated a little longer. This is ensured by the warm service of Rosemarie Triebswetter-Lutz, the excellently stocked wine list with a focus on Markgräflerland, Ortenau and Kaiserstuhl - Baden at its best. And of course the cuisine, for which the same attribute can be invoked: of course strictly seasonal and regional, from the best suppliers, expertly prepared. Lutz worked at the Colombi for ten years and serves half a dozen handcrafted and sensorially perfect, Baden-classic, but sensitively refined starters, main courses and desserts here in the countryside. The glazed sweetbreads on a salad of lentils and Jerusalem artichoke are heavenly tender, the braised ox cheeks in a deep-gloss red wine jus with spaetzle (hand-scraped, of course) are highly aromatic, as is the case with grandmother's plum crumble with homemade sour cream ice cream. A place to feel good and come back!
