Gault&Millau's review 2025

Due to current events, here is a short minute of silence for the "Ernst". The days of Dylan Watson-Brawn's tiny counter restaurant are numbered. For quite a few, it was the most interesting culinary address in Berlin in recent years. He was Chef of the Year with us anyway. The fact that the team still runs the smart Julius diagonally opposite is much more than a consolation. Here, the cooking is very accurate and with similar products, albeit much less sophisticated. There is a weekly changing carte blanche menu. A great pleasure were the asparagus tempura with a silky sabayon, the melty sea bream sashimi (hand-fished in noirmoutier) with coriander flowers, the flatbread with Chioggia beets and homemade ricotta – a fine smoky note was also in the highlight of the chicken breast, presumably from Binchotan charcoal, but the demand for the Japanese service was a case of Lost in Translation. There is also a very individual menu of wines grown and matured in a natural way, including many items from France. During the day, Julius is a café with self-roasted dark roasted coffee and homemade pastries. At lunchtime, there are a few lunch dishes.
