Gault&Millau's review 2025

Located just outside the city, between the city centre and the Ruhr University in a modern residential complex, the brothers Christian and Patrick Farago have quickly gained a loyal fan base with their "kantine". At lunchtime there is a casual lunch, in the evening the big show. We have got hold of one of the coveted tables and start the evening with a bang: The frisée salad with mandarin, grapefruit, kumquat and an ice cream made from sourdough bread is so playful and animating on the palate in terms of texture and taste that we have to restrain ourselves from reordering it. Instead, we enjoy lobster with curry and intense bisque, a crispy, fluffy donut made from sweetbreads – a homage to Dutch snack culture – and a bright white piece of perfectly steamed cod with wok vegetables and tom kha gai broth. Be sure to ask for the "Top Secret" wine list and enjoy some of the best wines from Germany and France in beautiful ripeness.
