Gault&Millau's review 2025

Quietly located on the Hunsrück, on the border of Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate, Christiane Detemple-Schäfer and Oliver Schäfer have been running their temple of pleasure for over three decades. In addition to a few rooms and a relaxed bistro with regional cuisine, the heart of the house is the restaurant Le Temple, where unadulterated, French-based cuisine is paid homage - and in the most pleasant way. A "Solei" may well get lost on the menu, which has come a long way from the home cooking with Ibérico ham juice and plenty of truffles. The Alsatian salmon trout comes as a crépinette in savoy cabbage on a creamy Chablis sauce with its caviar, a perfectly fried, flaky slice of turbot under a fine gratin lies on plucked beef cheek in a light Beaujolais sauce, surrounded by flamed melon. Delicious desserts – all in all: Formidable!
