Gault&Millau's review 2025

For over 30 years, the Malathounis couple have been offering the best Greek cuisine available in Germany. Exceptionally good ingredients, traditional roots in Greek cuisine, but modern, often unusually purist preparation across the board: All this is prepared by the family with a lot of heart for many regular guests and thus has no points of contact at all with what we classically understand by Greek cuisine in the style of Delphi plates and gyros mixes. Located a little off the beaten track in the Rems Valley, the restaurant with its 20 seats instead offers suckling pig stifado with shallots, dates and broad beans, which are highly aromatic with cinnamon and bay leaf; à part there is fennel salami with pomegranate. Baltic cod with retsina sauce becomes a Mediterranean culinary pleasure, and the independent aroma of white cabbage, leek and Piedmontese hazelnut also contributes to this. Johannes Malathounis cooks vegetarian just as confidently: We have never eaten a roasted chervil root with king oyster mushrooms, pickled onions and carrots so aromatic. Absolutely recommended. The same applies to the wine accompaniment, as the restaurant has a unique combination of top Greek wines with Württemberg specialties from the surrounding area. All this, by the way, is extremely hospitable.
