Gault&Millau's review 2025

Tübingen's most charming suburb inspires with its Cistercian monastery, winding alleys and warm hospitality. In the cosy parlours of Maximilian and Marie-Luise Schranner, traditional wood meets modern design and creates an inviting atmosphere. Three menus are offered: a tavern or gourmet menu and a vegetarian option. À la carte is also possible. The tavern menu with classics such as beef broth and roast beef with onions reflects Swabian hospitality. The gourmet menu shows creative craftsmanship; in some places, a touch more variety of flavours would be pleasing. The kohlrabi foam soup with poultry gyoza is finely prepared, but could have done with more sophistication. The turbot with ricotta and chard balls, spinach and celery agout in nut butter foam, on the other hand, convinces with a perfect balance of aromas. Friendly service as well as an attractive lunch menu and an idyllic terrace round off the experience.
