Gault&Millau's review 2025

The Hotel Kulturhof Stanggass combines tradition and modernity with impressive ease on the outskirts of Berchtesgaden. Light wood accents and clear lines characterize the design, which blends harmoniously into the mountain scenery. But this is about more than just aesthetics. Zsolt Fodor, Hungarian chef, inspires in the restaurant Solo Du (the name "Solo Du" is a rating at Schafkopf, by the way) with a minimalist approach: first-class products, puristically staged, unfold their full expressiveness in an eight- or ten-course menu. Whether it's a gossamer melon and tomato gazpacho that brings summer to the plate, or butter-tender halibut accompanied by chanterelles and an intense mushroom essence – it's the essentials that count here, and in perfection. The Wellington filet provides a powerful highlight: crispy and flaky on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, combined with velvety beetroot and an elegant Cumberland sauce. Maître and sommelier Martin Bielik provides the right wine accompaniment with pleasant professionalism.
