Saxony's smallest brewery is right next door: Lotters Wirtschaft, the second or actually main restaurant in the traditional Hotel Blauer Engel on the Altmarkt in the imposing Wilhelminian style building with roots dating back to 1663, has its own brewing kettle and serves fresh beer from wooden barrels, which is ideal for an aperitif, before moving on to the recently renovated gourmet séparée (the atmosphere of the room with four tables under a golden ceiling is almost too intimate for the name "restaurant") Sankt Andreas. There, named after the old white clay kitchen in Aue, the Unger brothers are in top form: Claudius Unger is in charge of the service and is in charge of a wine list that, in addition to Saxon wines, presents a hospitable selection of the best wines from all over Europe. Now that the beverage expertise of the house has been sufficiently acknowledged, we turn our attention to Benjamin Unger's riding: He delights the guests in the Erzgebirge metropolis with an elaborate menu under the title "new German cuisine" and beautiful place setting names such as "Rot-weiß", "Für die Seele" or "Eintopf". Of course, this is a friendly understatement. The dishes as well as the plate language have class and style, Benjamin Unger is also a master of espumas and sauces, which he likes to contrast with crunchy hips and in between he accommodates the main ingredient along with small sidekicks, thus creating tastefully connected, harmonious dishes with quite strong aromas.
