Gault&Millau's review 2025

The corner benches are hunter's green, modernised hunting decorations everywhere - and the results of the hunt are of course also on the plate. The beautiful inn of the Rottner family from 1812 in Großreuth in the west of Nuremberg is a permanent fixture on the city's gastronomic menu and belongs on the culinary calendar, especially outside the closed season. Valentin Rottner took over the kitchen management from his father Stefan years ago and continues to run the house exactly as we know it: as a very good address, where classic ingredients are processed with a modern touch and cooked to the table with pinpoint accuracy. Scallops in beurre blanc, a spicy venison tartare in a waffle cone, a wild boar praline and bacon cream open the round, which is followed by a venison consommé of pheasant, hare or saddle of venison with grilled corn in a beautiful historical ambience - preferably all in a row as a five- to seven-course menu. Out of season, there are also well-prepared carnivorous specialties based on classic French cuisine, and a vegetarian menu can be ordered in advance. Good wines and good service from sommelier Thomas Wagner and Claudia Rottner.
